5 Steps to a Beautiful Bathroom Remodel

With some planning and expertise, you and your interior design expert in Sioux Falls can complete a bathroom remodel project that you’ll be happy with for years to come. Here are the five basic steps you’ll need to take.

1. Design it on paper.

Plan your bathroom remodel carefully with actual measurements. Draw it out to scale to make sure the new counter, sink and cabinets will work in the space you have. If you are getting a new tub or shower, make sure the installer will be able to fit it through the bathroom door. Don’t hesitate to gather ideas from magazines, websites or even your friend’s house. You might be inspired to put your own twist on a clever idea.

2. Make a generous budget.

Don’t try to budget down to the penny. You should have to leave room for unexpected expenses caused by mistakes, unforeseen circumstances or just materials that increase in price. Make sure you have enough cash or credit to complete the job so you’re not left with a half-finished project. It’s better to have money left over than to get caught short before the job is done.

3. Shop your materials wisely

Visit a tile dealer for your tile, a fixture specialist for the taps and cabinet hardware, and a cabinetmaker for custom made storage cubbies. If you buy everything from big box stores, you’ll not only pay retail mark-up prices, but you’ll have much less selection. Your contractor will be able to advise you on the best places to source items for your bathroom remodel.

4. Have everything on hand before you begin.

Try to make sure all your materials are on the premises before the contractor starts the project. It’s a common mistake to expect a backorder to come in on a certain date, only to be disappointed and have to put the whole project on hold. Better to have it all standing by so the contractor can work according to the set schedule.

5. Have a back up plan.

Just in case everything doesn’t go smoothly, have a back up plan in place. Maybe you can send the kids to a slumber party on the night that your house has no toilet. Consider the possibility that you all may have to spend a night in a hotel room until the bathroom remodel is complete.

Your bathroom remodel may be part of a larger interior design in your Sioux Falls home. If so, consider doing your remodel work in stages, instead of doing the whole house at once.
