The Most Expensive Homes that Sold in the United States in 2014

Because it is fun to dream, we at Stone City have decided to take a look at the most expensive home sales in 2014. While it is unlikely that many people have the millions required to buy one of these properties, it may be in one's budget to do a home renovation project like a kitchen design in Sioux Falls or a new bathroom.

Cooper Beach Farm in Greenwich, CT

For the paltry sum of $120 million, the Copper Beach Farm in Greenwich sold to an anonymous buyer in April 2014. By far the most expensive home sale in the United States, the mansion is named because of the beautiful copper beach trees that line the driveway. What does a person get for $120 million? How about a 13,000 square foot main house with 12 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms and a wood-paneled library. Other features include a solarium, wine cellar and outdoor tennis courts.

Lily Pond Lane Properties

What's better than buying one property? How about being able to purchase three properties to the tune of $93.9 million. Earlier this year wealthy hedge fund owner Scott Bommer purchased a total of three properties on the beach in East Hampton, NY. While it remains to be seen what Bommer does with the property, he is likely to build a mammoth estate and have spectacular views of the water.

834 Fifth Avenue in New York City

Purchased by a Ukrainian billionaire from the owner of the New York Jets, this spectacular Fifth Avenue apartment set a Manhattan record for the most expensive co-op ever sold at $80 million. Because the original owner never lived in the apartment, the amenities and features of the building are not public knowledge. However, if this four bedroom pad cost $80 million it is hard to imagine that it is not a palatial palace.

Carolwood Estate in Los Angeles

Formerly owned by legendary Walt Disney, the Carolwood Estate sold to the owner of the Houston Dynamo for $74 million. With more than 30,000 square feet of living space, the mansion features a movie theater, three bars, a putting green and a wine cellar.

Beverly Hills Mansion

It is hard to imagine that Jay-Z and Beyonce could be outbid by anyone; however, that is exactly what happened with this spectacular modern home that was ultimately purchased by Markus Persson for $70 million. Considered the most architecturally famous home in California, it features a 16-car garage, an Olympic-size infinity pool and a one-of-a-kind view of downtown Los Angeles.
